How does one translate the flowing movement of a premium gin into the architectural design of a bar? This was the question that architecture label GRAFT and designer duo ett la benn chose to tackle. The result can be admired at the Bombay Sapphire Design Nights, a new series of exhibitions by Bombay Sapphire in cooperation with stilwerk.
For the Bombay Sapphire Design Nights, the team has devised a bar lounge at stilwerk which expresses the flowing movements of a drink in the tri-dimensional context of the space in which the installation evolves. The futuristic installation by ett la benn reveals a surprising interaction between the public and design. Transparent balloons filled with helium and fluorescent colour freely float around the space. At the same time, the visitors’ movements set the installation in motion, thus generating sublime effects of light and colour.
‘Bombay Fusion’, the bar devised by Berlin-based architects GRAFT seems uncoupled from its original function and distinguishes itself through spectacular, flowing shapes. Furthermore, the dynamic arrangement of 182 acrylic plates works as a metaphor for the 182 carats of the ‘Star of Bombay’ sapphire, which inspired the name Bombay Sapphire.
The Bombay Sapphire Design Nights are opened Wed – Sat, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sun 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at , , Berlin-Charlottenburg, for all DMY visitors.
