DMY International Design Festival Berlin

With more than 550 designers from over 30 nations the DMY International Design Festival Berlin has grown into the largest product design festival in Germany and one of the most important international platforms for creative, experimental and forward thinking design.

New venue

The impressive industrial architecture of the former power plant (Kaftwerk) is located right in the heart of Berlin Mitte. With over 10.000 square meters and 3 huge floors the place offers a unique and generous atmosphere revealing the newest developments and conceptual design editions.

For the first time, the exhibition of the Youngsters (experimental and upcoming designers) and the showcase of the Allstars (established designers companies) will be brought together and presented in one central venue. This creates a more vibrant, diverse exhibition with more connection between designers and the crowd. It will enable young designers to get into direct contact with their trade audience while established designers will have the opportunity to show themselves in a more experimental context.

The vibrant, diverse exhibition will be accompanied by selected events such as the Symposium, Pecha Kucha and the famous Designer’s Dinner. The DMY festival in 2010 will be a dense experience in one central festival space with a stunning setting.

Furthermore self-initiated exhibitions, called Extended, from design studios, design galleries and museums to embassies will pop up all around the city.

Early birds

This year, we offer a special discount for early adopters: In case your project will be selected for the festival participation, you will save 20 % for the stand rental, if you apply for one of the modules until December 31, 2009, .

As a special highlight of this year’s Asia Tour, DMY Berlin presented the selected group exhibition of products and prototypes by 14 Berlin-based designers at Designtide Tokyo. It was such a pleasure hanging the lights and placing conceptual design furnitures within the heart of this year’s friendly clouded Designtide “marketplace”. Filled up with international trade visitors and the design-savvy, Designtide still offered an intimate, pleasant and concentrated atmosphere to explore forward-thinking ideas, concepts and all-new products.

The simplicity and modularity of DMY’s design collection was highly appreciated and well received. Especially the multiple possibilities of applications and usage for instance of the “trestle” by ett la benn or Martin Holzapfel’s “bureau” impressed the japanese audience and international buyers. In the evening, Klublabor celebrated the great success in the lovely informal, designers-packed scene spot Soft with Tokio Melomania’s DJ Ryohei Mitsushashi, Kotaro Matsu and Female Macho from Berlin.

Next station: Singapore.
