The sky is not the limit
DMY Berlin turns sixThe exhibition as a Festival.
As a year-round platform, DMY Berlin has laid the fundament for an independent event format during the first five years of its existence. In 2008, DMY Berlin proudly presents the new Berlin design festival.
In its 6th year, DMY Berlin has evolved into a city-wide design festival, and with the new modules DMY Allstars and DMY Design Symposium, the Festival expands into an internationally acknowledged public and designer platform. As a non-stop programme marathon, the Festival finds its most vivid expression in the legendary DMY Klublabor, thus highlighting this years’ DMY International Design Festivals motto ‘THE SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT’.
With this year’s ‘Call For Entries’, the Festival’s invitation coursed through the whole world, drawing participants from New York to Shanghai, from the new generation of creative agents to renowned designers.
In this way, the experimental surface of the original ‘Designmai Youngsters’ (launched in 2003) evolved into the DMY International Design Festival 2008, and therefore becoming a world-wide meeting point for the international design scene.
With a variety of curated exhibitions, DMY Berlin introduces a new festival format that comprises – amongst others – the main ‘Youngsters’ exhibition with 97 solo and group exhibitors, the ‘Allstars’ satellite venues with more than 35 external exhibition locations, and the Design Symposium, which will bring together designers such as Jerszy Seymour, El Ultimo Grito or Ronen Kadushin who will discuss their design philosophy, while introducing international developments in the field of design as well as visionary student projects. At large, the Festival presents itself as a many-faceted event that crystallises the creative input and current trends of international design in Berlin.
