A habitat of Open Design workstations that invite you to explore an unparalleled dimension of hands on knowledge sharing.

Open Design is about developing, adapting, modifying and building with new tools, labor and material economies. It blurs the barriers between product and artifact, offering seamless entry and access. Objects generated through Open Design, by their nature, are delivered in beta, perceived not as complete but continuously evolving, in an immediated, environmentally cogent dialogue with the participant and the world.

Participate!

The DMY Maker Lab will be a celebration of Open Design through practice, presentations, and collaborative action. Numerous workshop stations invite you to build your own materials, learn new techniques and get involved in the process of design making. Feel free to drop by or subscribe to particular workshops beforehand via mail: makerlab@dmy-berlin.com

DMY would like to thank all instigators and participants that helped shaping and realizing the unique and open structure refelected in the Maker Lab 2010. A special thanks goes to the ‚glue team‘, Jay Cousins (Palomar 5), Gabriel Shalom (KS12), Michelle Thorne (Creative Commons), Luis Berríos Negrón, Pedro Pineda (We Creative People), Bas van Abel (WAAG Society) as well as to Roel Klaasen (Premsela), Matt Stinchcomb and Benedikta Karaisl von Karai (Etsy.com).

Open Design Mindscapes

Open Design Mindscapes The exploration of Open Design starts with ongoing collaborative discussions at the centre of the event. Share your views, passions and ideas while inspiring others, too. The Mindscape cluster will be moderated by Michelle Thorne (Creative Commons) and Pedro Pineda (We Creative People), and will feature both pre-scheduled and spontaneous contributions.

Documentation

A core component of Open Design is the documentation, which is essential to enable others to access your designs, processes and techniques. We shall be exploring new and tested processes over the course of the event to iterate the documentation process itself.

Analog Motion Graphics Create handmade moving images in which the motion is achieved by hand or using movements made with the body. We will be helping you to create beautiful and unique documentation, enabling you to share the discoveries you make at the workshop with the larger maker community. Immediated Autodocumentary We will engage the routine behavior of sharing media on social networks as a means towards live documentation of our event. All participants are invited to tweet #dmymakerlab or join the flickr group dmymakerlab to contribute to our selfreflexive discourse. Enabled by KS12: Gabriel Shalom, Patrizia Kommerell, Annika Bauer, Veronika Ruppenthal
