Designcluster <Asia>
23 - 14 September 2007These days, Asian design is the talk of the town. The design exhibition DESIGNCLUSTER presents product design by young designers from the Asia-Pacific area, and takes place within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2007 in Berlin, from September 14 to September 23.
The Designcluster brings together four of Asia’s leading metropolises, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai. The exhibition focuses on young experimental design evolving at the crossroads between various disciplines. The designers’ sources of inspiration flow freely between zen and high technology.
Thus, the contribution of the Tokyo Musashino Art University comprises objects that recall the spirit of abstract beauty of the traditional Japanese Karesansui gardens into everyday life. With the help of high-tech electronics, Sukwoo Lee from Seoul combines the interaction of audio and light frequencies to create a futuristic lamp design.
One of the main aspects of the exhibition is the highlighting of cultural and social influences within the various Asian countries, where differences in lifestyle and culture sometimes prove to be much wider than expected.
